Our consultants have provided or are providing leadership and expertise to a number of projects and initiatives. These include:
- HL7 - National Library of Medicine (NLM) EHR Project: As lead consultant for HL7 in the delivery of services to the Department of Health and Human Services / National Library of Medicine (NLM) provide implementation expertise and guidance (1) in the development of a comprehensive set of implementation guides for medication history, laboratory result and record locator messaging, and (2) in supporting pilot sites to demonstrate data exchange based on these key use cases.
- Pan-Canadian Health Surveillance: Project management and expertise in the development of national standards for public health surveillance in Canada as well as the establishment of a solution that is both independently implementable in individual health jurisdictions yet integrated in order to form a pan-Canadian health surveillance solution.
- Vancouver Island Health Authority electronic Medical Summary (eMS): Develop HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) version 2, level 3 Specification for medical summaries used for referrals. This was one of the first HL7 CDA level 3 Specifications in the world and is currently being implemented in the Province of British Columbia (BC).
- Physician Office System Program Medical Summary (POSP): Upgraded proprietary data exchange specifications to HL7 CDA level 3 and provided key XML/XSLT implementation expertise.
- Pan-Canadian Clinical Drug (CeRx) Messaging Standard: Provide Project Management, Clinical Subject Matter Expertise and HL7 (Health Level 7) v3 expertise and leadership through development and facilitation of a pan-Canadian standards development group. Includes project management, message development, collaboration and international harmonization of ePrescribing messages. These messages are being integrated with HL7 v3 claims messages in general and the Canadian National e-Claims Standard (NeCST) in particular.
- Electronic Prescribing Regulation: Lead a project to review and recommend legislative/regulatory changes to enable “paperless” electronic prescribing for Canada.
- Pan-Canadian Laboratory Messaging Standard: Providing project management expertise and leadership to the development of pan-Canadian HL7 messaging as well as LOINC® and SNOMED-CT® based nomenclature standards for laboratory messaging.
- Maximus Health: Developed HL7 v3 messages for insurance enrolment and management, based on HL7 v2 messages and new requirements.
- Chronic Disease Management (CDM): Provide HL7 expertise in the development of clinical messages to support chronic disease management for diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney diseases for the Western Health Information Collaborative (WHIC). Includes HL7 v3 message development, collaboration and international harmonization of CDM messages.
- Provider Registry: Assisted with the development of HL7 v3 messages for the WHIC Provider Registry project and provided guidance to HL7 standards balloting activities.
- National e-Claims Standard (NeCST): Provide HL7 v2 & v3 expertise and leadership through chairing and facilitation of a pan-Canadian standards development group. Includes message development efforts, collaboration, international balloting and implementation of e-claims messages. This has resulted in the first suite of normative HL7 v3 messages (world wide) that have been implemented in Canada. Assisted in the initial implementation project of NeCST messages with BCE Emergis, an early adopter.
- Health Insurance Commission (HIC), Australia: Provide HL7 expertise to mapping proprietary health claims formats to HL7 v3.0. Also provided training and knowledge transfer.
- Oracle Corporation, USA: Provided HL7 expertise for Oracle’s Health Transaction Base (HTB) through HL7 v3 claims to HIPAA mapping.
- HealthNet/BC: Responsible for, or participated in all of the HL7 message development with the British Columbia Ministry of Health under HealthNet/BC. This included BC Lab Test Standard, Client Registry (Health Registry), Provider Registry, Mental Health, Pharmacy (BC PharmaNet) and BC Electronic Health Claims Standard.
- Province of BC: Establishment of a major multi-organization, multi-jurisdiction message based customer identifier alignment solution.
- HL7 Thought Leadership: Our team currently volunteers extensively in HL7 Canada and HL7 International. Key roles in HL7 include HL7-Canada board member, co-chair Financial Management Technical Committee, NeCST Technical Architecture Group (TAG) Chair, modeling facilitator and chair v3 Publishing.
